PTA Reflections Program

From each of the boys, I received this little pink slip titled Reflections Theme 2009-2010: "Beauty is. . ." Uh, what's that? I got that it was some sort of arts contest, but what was the point. So I looked it up at www.ptareflections.org:

The PTA Reflections Program is designed to enhance a quality arts education by providing an opportunity for students to explore their artistic talents and receive positive recognition for their efforts.

When children express themselves through words, pictures, music, dance, and other art forms, they grow intellectually and socially. They learn to analyze their thoughts, feelings, and ideas; learn to look at things, people, and experiences in a fresh and exciting way; and become more interested in the ideas and works of others.

Oh, ok! On with the details of the contest. There is no cost to enter. Students, kindergarten to sixth grade, may submit works in each of these arts areas: (read the requirements over carefully for the category that your child wishes to enter as they may be turned back for not following entry directions)

Dance choreography
Film production
Literature
Musical composition
Photography
Visual arts
Theatre Arts &
3-D arts (sculpture, jewelry, mobiles, etc)

As with any student activity, parent involvement and support are very important. But parents must remember that student artists need to be responsible for their own work. Children must make their own decisions about what to create and what to enter in the Reflections Program . . . Students should simply do their best; crooked lines, incorrect musical notes, or misspelled words do not disqualify anyone. ~http://www.ptareflections.org/cs/about_reflections

Entry forms will be available in the Mount Mahogany office on Thursday, October 1st.
All entries are due Thursday, October 22nd.
Winners will be announced at the November Student of the Month Assembly (during the school day)
