For the past five years Discovery Gateway has celebrated the national event, Week of the Young Child. In partnership with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), this event recognizes and celebrates the importance of early childhood education. The Museum features a week of special programming and events for parents, children, and community leaders.

Discovery Gateway Photo Contest

All photos can be submitted from August 9th through August 27th.
The winner will be announced on September 1st.

Don't forget your camera the next time you visit Discovery Gateway because we are launching a photo contest, Playing in Pictures! Send us your best photo of your family playing in the Museum for a chance to win a "playfull" prize package.

About the Contest:
Submit your favorite photo to the Discovery Gateway Facebook fan page.
The winner takes home a prize package that includes a One Year Family Imagination membership to the Museum, a Discovery Gateway birthday party, a Discovery to Go! toy package, Carlucci's Bakery and Tutoring Toy gift certificates, a one night stay at the Hyatt Place and additional prizes from our community partners.

The winning photo will also be displayed as our Facebook picture for a week.

Summer Science Adventure Camps

June 29 – July 1, 2010 (3-4 grades) 

July 13 – July 15, 2010 (5-6 grades).

$195 per session (15% discount for members of Clark Planetarium or Discovery Gateway).

Our new Summer Science Adventure Camps give kids hands-on training that will inspire teamwork, creativity and innovation.  Campers  will be challenged to see the world differently whether it is looking at something a thousand times smaller than the diameter of a human hair, or larger than galaxies in the universe.  The three day camp experience will be jam packed with activities, games, and fun filled experiences that you will cherish for years to come.

Discovery Gateway Spring Concert

Discovery Gateway presents its 30th Annual Spring Concert in 2010. Join us for our annual celebration of elementary choral music education. Twelve leading elementary school choral programs perform at the world-class venue, Abravanel Hall.

Discovery Gateway Daily Classes

Mondays
11 am and 12 pm

Sing, dance, and explore with musical instruments! Children learn to express themselves creatively through sound and movement in this half hour class. Music in Motion is a program for children ages 18 months – 3 years. Sign up to participate at the Information Desk.

Time for Tots

Tuesdays

11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm

Become a master storyteller and develop your child’s critical thinking skills during this Motheread/Fatheread half hour session. Motheread/Fatheread is a nationally recognized literacy program. Time for Tots is a class for children 18 months – 3 years. Sign up to participate at the Information Desk.

Creative Kids- A Discovery Gateway Family ARTWorks Program

Wednesdays 

11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm

Children will explore their inner artist through creative work with a variety of materials, including paint, clay, and glue. Creative Kids is a half hour class and is for children ages 4 – 8 years. Sign up to participate at the Information Desk.

Little Scientist

Thursdays

11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm

In this half hour class, children are encouraged to ask questions about nature and to seek answers through collecting things, counting and measuring, making observations, and experimenting. Little Scientist is a class for children ages 2 – 5 years. Sign up to participate at the Information Desk.

Amazing Me

Fridays

11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm

Children can do amazing things and in this half hour class, children will participate in a variety of health, safety, and self-esteem building activities. Amazing Me! is a program for children ages 3 – 7 years. Sign up to participate at the Information Desk. 

CSI: Curious Science Investigators

Saturdays

1 pm, 3 pm, and 5 pm

Every Saturday, become a CSI discovery agent. In this half-hour workshop, agents uncover the mysteries of the world by finding evidence, conducting experiments, and drawing conclusions! 

Studio 444 - A Discovery Gateway Family ARTWorks Program

Fridays

4:30 pm

Led by DG’s artist-in-residence, little ones, older children, and parents create masterpieces of art together using a wide variety of media in this half-hour workshop. This workshop requires a materials fee: $5 per person for members; $7 per person for non-members, and $15 for a family of 3+. Register for this class at Admissions.
