Do you dream about animals? Do you think measuring, scrubbing, sweeping and interacting with wild animals are good ways to spend your day? Have you always wanted to be a zookeeper? Well, here is your chance to see if you have what it takes. Come to the Zoo for a hands-on, behind the scenes, fun-filled day. Participants will spend their day with a staff member preparing animal diets, cleaning exhibits and creating enrichment for some of our animals. We will provide lunch, a T-shirt and a Keeper-tastic time!

Restrictions:

• Participants must submit a current (within three months of camp date) and certified negative TB test two weeks prior to camp. Please download and complete this form.
• Participants must wear weather appropriate clothing and shoes that can get dirty and wet. Shoes must have closed toes and heels must be covered.
• Due to the nature of the program each camp is limited to 4 participants.

Utah Lyric Opera: Ronan Tynan in Concert

Though Ronan enjoyed singing as a boy, he did not seriously consider formal voice study until he was 33, when he was well into his residency as a physician. His quick success is a typical development in a life of extraordinary achievement. Born with lower limb disability that threatened to sideline him throughout his childhood, Tynan was still “as wild as a March hare” when he was a growing boy, riding horses and racing motorcycles.  When he was twenty, his legs had to be amputated below the knee after an auto accident caused serious complications. Just weeks after the operation, he was climbing up the steps of his college dorm, and within a year, he was winning gold medals in the Paralympics as a multitalented athlete. Between 1981 and 1984, Tynan amassed eighteen gold medals and fourteen world records of which he still holds nine.
The determination instilled in Ronan by his parents, a diminutive couple with gigantic ambitions for their son, soon propelled him to conquer a whole new field. Tynan became the first disabled person ever admitted to the National College of Physical Education. He later became a full-fledged medical doctor, specializing in orthopedic sports injuries, with a degree from prestigious Trinity College.

Ronan won both the John McCormack Cup for Tenor Voice and the BBC talent show Go For It less than one year after beginning the study of voice.  The following year, he won the International Operatic Singing Competition in Maumarde, France.  He made his operatic debut as Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, and cut his teeth on the concert repertoire in performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria.  In 1998, Tynan joined Anthony Kearns and John McDermott (later Finbar Wright) as The Irish Tenors, an instant worldwide sensation.  His autobiography Halfway Home was published in February of 2002.

The BYU Merit Badge Pow Wow has been run for more than 50 years and is one of the largest Scout Pow Wows in the United States.

At this PowWow, the general format is group instruction with expert presenters accompanied by merit badge counselors who will work with the Scouts during the PowWow sessions; however, this group experience should be accompanied by parent and local unit attention to each Scout’s projects and his ability to fulfill all merit badge requirements. Attending group instruction does not, by itself, qualify a Scout for any merit badge—he must complete all merit badge requirements as well.

You don’t have to be artistic or even “crafty” to create the most stupendous, outrageous, and unique headdress in the world. Obtain a “base hat” from your closet, the attic, or a vintage shop. Use supplies at hand or visit a craft store.

Princesses and Her Majesties

It’s true that we can’t choose our own name at birth, but we can name ourselves as a member of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Come to the Ya-Ya Sisterhood Party with your new name and join us to be officially named in your Very Special Naming Ceremony. The goal is to honor each other, welcome your new name, and celebrate the glorious uniqueness of each one of you.

Daring Dinosaurs and Fun Fossils! Celebrate International Dinosaur Month with us as we discover the fun world of dinosaurs! Share in the fun on the second Wednesday every month when preschoolers can discover the Hutchings Museum through a story, craft, finger play, and short tour in one of our rooms. How would the “wizarding world” look at the Hutchings Museum?

Come and see as we celebrate the Halloween season with live owls, a scavenger hunt, and enchanted rock puppets on two evenings of magical fun! Watch potions demonstrations, listen to tales of mythical creatures, and meet famous wizards and witches. It will be possible to buy “galleons” (spending money) at $1 each for the wizard marketplace with charmed candy at Honeyduke's Candy Shop, the Magic Stone Store and more.

All are invited to dress in costume for the occasion. The Museum will be closed between 3:00pm to 5:00pm in preparation for the event.

Lindsay Aline's (pronounced "ah-leen") music is a fresh and sophisticated blend of rock, pop, and classical genres. Bringing together North American and European vocal techniques, her signature voice is unique in its combination of style and range - Sissel meets Evanescence. Her music is dramatic and mysterious at times - without being dark or negative - and light and lyrical at others. 

As a lyricist, Lindsay probes the human struggle while maintaining an overall hopeful outlook. "Her music makes me happy," is a common comment. Her audience spans a large age range and includes people who appreciate multiple genres of music. Great Reads for Girls : A Mother-Daughter Book Club

On the second Wednesday of the month join other girls and their mothers or other caring adults for lively discussions, activities, and fun. Girls ages 8 to 16 are encouraged to join. This program is free. Please come in to the library to pick up a copy of the current book.
