"Hard Times" features memorable and telling images by some of the best contemporary social realist artists in America. Each work in the show represents the artists' responses to the economic and social challenges of today's society.
This display shows how 16 American realists have responded to our country’s worst economic meltdown since the Great Depression. Dr. Vern G. Swanson, director of Utah’s Springville Museum of Art, notes that “Impending doom has cast an encroaching shadow upon the economic landscape and appears to be a harbinger for future want and depression.” This art exhibit portrays the feelings of this "shadow" covering the nation and allows the viewers of the art to create an emotional connection with not just the artist, but with the subject matter.
Artists include Mario Andres Robinson, Max Ginsburg, Burton Silverman, Harvey Dinnerstein, Warren Chang, Gary Ernest Smith, Trevor Southey, Steven Assael, Jeffrey Hein, Garin Baker, Sean Diediker, David Jon Kassan, David Linn, Mary Beth McKenzie, Denis Peterson, and Justin Taylor.
