South American Penguin Encounter

March 26, 2010

The Living Planet Aquarium
725 E. 10600 S.
Sandy, UT

The Penguin Encounter is happy to welcome Gentoo penguins to The Living Planet Aquarium! It is sure to become the most popular exhibit at the aquarium Gentoo penguins live in a cool climate of the Falkland Islands, just off of the coast of Argentina. They eat small fish & krill, love to swim and live in highly social colonies (or waddles) often with other species of penguins.

Features:
  • In this special habitat, an acrylic window and dramatic vantage points will offer guests nose-to-beak viewing as penguins splash, dive and “fly” underwater.
  • Other close encounters involve watching the busy birds preen, squabble over territory, build nesting sites and scramble over rocky shores. The exhibit will also include a waterfall and cozy (for penguins), 45F degree water, where the penguins will splash, frolic and play!
Cost:
$9 Adults
$8 Seniors, Students & Military
$7 Children

Seahorse Symphony Opening Day

Saturday December 19th
Living Planet

This new exhibit celebrates one of the most captivating and charismatic species on the planet, and will feature several species of live seahorses and their relatives, including the unique and fascinating pipefish. The exhibit will also include an interactive reproductive component that will educate visitors about the unique reproduction of seahorses. Seahorses lock tails, change colors, swim snout-to-snout and whirl around in unison for days before engaging in a “true courtship dance” that lasts about eight hours. When one thing finally leads to another, it is the male of the species that becomes pregnant and carries the offspring.
