Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA is a contemporary musical take on a grand classic tale of the timeless bond between an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier. As forbidden love blossoms between them, the young lovers are forced to face death or part forever. Together, they set a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity.  With a pop-rock score that features stirring ballads and rousing choral numbers, AIDA has become one of musical theatre's new powerhouse musical classics.  Directed by Howard & Kathryn Little.  Choreography by Rick Robinson.   Presented by KOSY 106.5.

LeConte Stewart: Depression Era Art

Opens July 21, 2011
 10am - 5pm ~ Tues, Thurs, Friday
10am - 8pm ~ Wed.
11am - 5pm ~ Sat. & Sun
Utah Museum of Fine Arts (directions)

In an exciting collaboration, the UMFA has teamed up with the L.D.S. Church History Museum to stage the largest exhibition ever mounted of Utah artist LeConte Stewart's work.

The UMFA's retrospective will examine defining works created during the Great Depression, a period when the artist examined thematic images of progress juxtaposed to the human consequences of economic upheaval.

The L.D.S. Church History Museum will exhibit a survey of Stewart's large body of landscape works on paper and paintings with an emphasis of rural Utah. Farmhouses, barns and fields are depicted in rich tones with thick impasto and loose brushstrokes. They are familiar scenes of the western environment. It is a backdrop in which Stewart found not only the isolation he sought throughout his life, but a spirit in the land that was of solace to him.

The Five Browns in Concert

Monday, July 11, 2011
6 - 9 pm
Waterfall Amphitheater, Thanksgiving Point Gardens

The 5 Browns are waking up classical music by introducing it to the widest, largest, and most excited audience they can find. See them perform at the stunning Waterfall Amphitheater at Thanksgiving Point for this very special evening.

The 5 Browns – Ryan, Melody, Gregory, Deondra and Desirae – all attended New York’s Juilliard School: the first family of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously. The quintet enjoyed their first... wave of critical attention in February 2002 when People magazine dubbed them the "Fab Five" and at about the same time they were featured on Oprah and 60 Minutes. The 5 Browns have released 3 CDs that each went to 1 on Billboard Magazine’s Classical Album Chart. The New York Post has proclaimed: “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years…When these kids do Rachmaninoff, they'll make you forget about Marshall amps.” The 5 Browns reveal a deep connection to the intent of their material while bringing a fresh energy and dynamic character to the color and tonal spectrum of their sound.
