Red Ribbon Week

Mt. Mahogany is celebrating being drug free.

Monday - Pledge to be drug free: Dress in Red

Kick off assembly will be held at 9:30 am and students will receive a red bracelet to wear throughout the week. If a student is caught wearing the bracelet at the right time and surprise may be received.

Tuesday - Use your Head, Don't do drugs: Wear your hats

They will be signing the "I pledge to be drug free" poster at lunch.

Wednesday - "Lei" off drugs: Dress Hawaiian

During lunch recess they will be tying red ribbons to the playground fence to show our pledge to be drug free, and the Poster Contest Winners will be announced.

Thursday - Be cool and "Shade Out" drugs: Wear your coolest sunglasses

They will be having a class door contest - Things I can do instead of drugs.

Friday - Don't be tricked, Drugs are No Treat!: Wear your Halloween Costume

NO masks or weapons! Class door winners will have a root beer float party.

9:30 Halloween Parade - Parents are invited to watch the parade from the media center/library and gym. If your child needs help with his/her costume, parents may come at 9:15 to assist.

All You Wonderful Cooks Out There

To all you wonderful chefs out there. I am looking for a red spaghetti sauce that does not require meat or canned whole/sliced tomatoes. Does anyone know of a quick sauce that I can whip up when my girls want noodles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Mt Mahagony Reflections Due Date

I learned after making the mad dash to get my daughters entry ready and submitted today, that today is no longer the deadline for entries. Students have until November 4th to submit their entries. There were only 10-12 TOTAL entries that had been received so far so the participation has been low. Now you have a little extra time to get everything done and submitted.

Meet the Candidates at the Library

It's election season round these parts and on Thursday, October 22nd, the library is hosting a "Meet the Candidates" forum. The meeting will be held on the lower level of the library and will start at 7 p.m. Candidates for Mayor and all other City Council positions will respond to questions posed by a moderator. All the questions will come from citizens. If you're interested in submitting questions, you can email them to library at pgcity.org . I'm planning on going so that I can actually cast a slightly educated vote for the people that I think would do the best job running our city and I would encourage anyone who is interested to join me!

Pleasant Grove Orchestra Concert

Just a heads up that the Pleasant Grove Orchestra is having a concert the evening of Friday, October 23rd, at 7 p.m. at the high school (700 E. 200 S.). We're not anything too spectacular, but it's free and you could get your Culture Points for the month. If you're interested, we'll be performing Shubert's Rosamunde Overture, Tschaikovsky's Cappricio Italien, and Mozart's Jupiter Symphony (Symphony No. 41). So, come support your local arts--we'd love to have you there!

Pleasant Grove Boulevard & Proctor Lane/1300 West

It's an unsafe intersection. Janae was in an accident there which totaled her car. There was another accident there this week. Several of you have mentioned that you go around to avoid it. I was in an almost accident again last week.

After the suggestion of others in our community to start a petition, I thought I'd give the city a call to find out what can be done about getting a light at an intersection. At first, I got the run around. They told me to talk to the police, who told me to talk to UDOT, who told me to talk to the City's traffic engineer. I call the city and ask for the traffic engineer. The WHO? Goodness!! Then they forward me to the City Engineer, Degan Lewis. I left a message.

Today, he called me back. There isn't money in the budget for a traffic signal, it costs $3000-$5000, or a traffic study - $2500. The City was hoping that with the opening of the new road leading into American Fork the traffic on PG Blvd would decrease. MR. Lewis feels that if there is any place in PG that needs a light that's the place.

So he has talked to a higher up to request that funds be obtained for the traffic study. He'll find out next week and let me know. For the traffic study, they set up counters, do occasional manual counting, among other things then review the data collected. The process takes a month.

I'm impressed. I didn't expect to get a call back. I certainly didn't think that anyone would really try to do anything about it. I'll keep you posted.
