Momtessori

Starting Sept 21st, Candice Haws and Janae Daines will be starting preschool classes that combine the values taught in the Joy School curriculum and the Montessori Method. It will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30-12.

The Montessori Method of education is a model which serves the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of children of all levels of mental and physical ability as they live and learn in a natural, mixed-age group which is very much like the society they will live in as adults.

Maria Montessori believed that children could learn a great deal more than expected if the learning environment were properly prepared for their needs and interests. Through her work she developed a method which is now referred to as the Montessori Method. The Montessori method is an integrated approach to education that takes into account individual variations in a child's development and focuses on educating the whole child.

Labor Day Weekend Events - Thanksgiving Point

Thanksgiving Point has an exciting new addition: the fascinating exhibit Mystery of Magnetism and the Mind.

Guests will experiment with a variety of exhibits designed to lead guests on an investigatory journey through magnets, perception, and simple motors.

Starting on Saturday Sept. 5th, the exhibit will be open Monday – Saturday, 10 am to 8 pm.
Admission is included with regular and combo Museum of Ancient Life passes {$10/Adult
$8/Child (3-12)} and is free for Thanksgiving Point and Museum of Ancient Life members.

At the Waterfall Ampitheatre of the Gardens, say Aloha! to summer with great food, leis, tiki torches, and live entertainment at Thanksgiving Point's annual Labor Day Luau. The luau will feature the UVU Legacy Dance Company performing the dances from various cultures of Polynesia including Fiji, Tonga, New Zealand, Hawaii, Tahiti, and Samoa with the ever-popular fire dancers.

Next Week
Plein Air painters and sculptors are invited to paint across Thanksgiving Point Tuesday, September 8 through Thursday, September 10, with demonstrations daily.

Events will culminate in an exhibition and sale of competition works at Water Tower Plaza on September 11 & 12. A highlight of this year's event is a Quick Draw (90 minute painting competition) at the Farmer's Market on Friday September 11 from 4:30 - 6:00

It's really neat to watch the artists as they work.

Statesmen Literature Discussion

On Sept. 24th we will be discussing Thoreau's work "Walking". You can find it at http://www.ecotopia.org/ehof/thoreau/walking.html. It is written in red so I would recommend copying and pasting it into a word doc.

Hobo Spiders and Spraying your units

Last week I found a hobo spider in my yard. Besides me, two other townhomes have found these spiders inside their units. Because of this several of us our having our units sprayed inside and out. Normally the HOA will take care of the outside, but not the inside. The people we have called, TNT, sprayed our unit and the Gibbons unit last fall when we were spotting the black widows and they did a great job. The spray is pet and child safe and VERY effective.

They normally charge $85 to come out and spray, but they have blocked off a couple hours for us and will do anyone who is interested in having their unit's sprayed for $50 each tomorrow morning. Townhomes and ground level condos are the ones I would reccomend this service for the most. Hobo's can be dangerous as are Black Widows and it is getting to mating season for them so now is a good time to spray.

If you want your unit sprayed, please call me at 801-357-9470 and let me know and I will have them come do yours in the morning also. Payment to them will be do at the time of spraying.

Megan Martin also let me know that the company the HOA has contracted is spraying today and tomorrow also and they will do the inside of your unit for $25. I do not know the company or anything about what they spray. I will let you know when I get that information.

This is exactly what the spider I have dead in a jar in my garage looks like. The one we found is about the size of a black widow.
