On May 10, 1869, two railroad companies, Union Pacific and Central Pacific, joined 1,776 miles of rail at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory and forged the destiny of a nation. Golden Spike National Historic Site shares the stories of the people and settings that define the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad.

The Driving of the Last Spike is reenacted during the summer season. To allow visitors to relive this celebration, volunteers portray the dignitaries who were at the ceremony on May 10th, 1869.

These runs will include arrivals of the Jupiter and No. 119 locomotives at 10:00 and 10:30 AM, steam demonstrations of both locomotives at 1:00 PM, and departures of the 119 and Jupiter at 4:00 and 4:30 PM..

Ken isn't in this photo, but I know some of those rangers dressed in period costume! Also, as I've learned by my own sad experience, they don't call them trains...they are locomotives. :) Thanks for advertising our wonderful national parks, monuments, and historic sites!
