We’ll have a howling good time, as we meet some of the creepiest creatures of the season and discover the important role they play in the ecosystem.

Each program features theme animals with guided tours, art activities, songs, snacks and special experiences. Adults attend with children ages 3-5.

• Children registered for the Pre-K sessions must be age 3 by the date the class session begins.
• We reserve the right to cancel the registrations of children registered in sessions that do not match their age/grade.

Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge

Some are slippery, some are slimy; few are scary. Learn more about reptiles and amphibians and get to know a few in person as you work on your merit badge. We will finish requirements 1-7, 9b and 10. We recommend that scouts do requirement 8b to complete their badge.

• Scout group leader ratio standards apply (1:6)
• No unregistered children
• Private Scout classes can also be arranged for groups of at least 10.

Thanksgiving Point Show Barn

The Show Barn will be transformed to immerse you in the culture of the very first Thanksgiving, complete with the sights, sounds, and foods of the 17th century. Upon arrival, you’ll receive biographical information about one of the pilgrims who attended the first Thanksgiving. You’ll spend an evening seeing life through this person’s eyes as you take a step back into early America. Your hosts will be prominent pilgrim figures, played by actors, who wear period clothing and share customs and traditions of the time. Young ones will delight in traditional games and activities and barnyard visitors. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to celebrate and understand Thanksgiving in fun and new ways.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Reviewed by Yara Wilson.

Published in 1818, this book is the story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist, who learns how to create life and in the process creates a being in the likeness of a man that is larger than average and more powerful. This book is considered to be one of the earliest examples of science fiction. It is the most celebrated horror novel in literary history and was written by a teenage girl. Shelley takes readers on a journey that shows the frailty of our lives and the motives which drive us to achieve despite our human emotions. She also explores the effects of neglect and loneliness on human behavior. A perfect book for the month of October!

The R.E.A.D. (Reading for Education and Discussion) Book Review Group is a fun way to get introduced to new books and meet new people. From September to May, the group meets on the second Thursday morning of every month at 10:00 a.m. Come join us. No registration is required.

A Change to Library Policy

Effective October 1, 2010

On August 5, 2010 the PGCL Board of Trustees voted to change the non-resident card fees to $80/year and eliminate the overdue fine grace period on all items checked out from the library.

In addition, the InterLibrary Loan postage fee will be $3.00.
